A ride-hailing driver who pleaded no contest to raping a Van Nuys woman was sentenced Tuesday to six years in state prison.
Octavio Alvarez Gomez, 39, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, according to Deputy District Attorney Ranna Jahanshahi.
Gomez pleaded no contest last month to a felony count of rape of an unconscious person.
Gomez, who drove for both Lyft and Uber but that night was driving for Lyft, picked up the victim from a bar after she ordered a ride to take her home. He failed to drop her off at her requested location and drove instead to a secluded area and raped the victim on Oct. 2, 2018, according to the prosecutor.
Gomez was arrested last September by the Los Angeles Police Department and has remained behind bars since then.
