Man Found Dead Near Palm Springs Dumpster Identified

by Contributing Editor

A man found dead near a dumpster near Palm Springs City Hall was publicly identified as a 33-year-old Blythe resident.

The Riverside County coroner’s office did not disclose the cause of Herman Phillip’s death, citing the ongoing police investigation.

Officers arrived about 7:30 a.m. Thursday and discovered the man’s body in an enclosed trash bin area — but not inside the dumpster — in the 200 block of El Cielo Road, according to Palm Springs police Lt. William Hutchinson.

He said Thursday that the death was suspicious, but that it had not been ruled a homicide at that point.

Police said Friday afternoon that no further information was expected to be released until Tuesday at the earliest.
