One person was injured in a shooting outside Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center Wednesday, prompting a lockdown at the hospital as authorities searched for the assailant.
Reports of the shooting near the hospital at 1011 Baldwin Park Blvd. began around 8 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Moses Marroquin said.
There was no immediate word on the condition of the victim, described only as a male. The shooter was described only as a man, possibly between 20 and 30 years old. It was unclear what prompted the shooting.
Baldwin Park police and CHP officers responded to the scene, but Marroquin said there was no active shooter situation and the investigation was turned over to Baldwin Park police.
Law enforcement ordered a lockdown at the hospital, sparking social-media speculation by people at the facility that there was an active shooter at the medical facility, but there was no such threat.
“Our patients and staff are safe,” according to a Twitter post from the hospital. “No dangerous activity in the hospital. We are cooperating with local law enforcement.”
At 10 a.m., the hospital tweeted that the lockdown had been lifted.
