A cat and dog were killed Thursday evening in a fire that tore through a two-story, multi-unit residential building in Valley Village.

Firefighters responded to the 5300 block of Radford Avenue, between Chandler and Magnolia boulevards, at 10:10 p.m. and discovered heavy fire in the attic of the building and declared the incident a greater alarm structure fire, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A total of 75 firefighters worked to extinguish the flames and a knock down was called at 10:40 p.m., he said.

No humans were injured, Prange said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
