LOS ANGELES — A man was killed and another man was wounded early Wednesday morning in a shooting in Beverly Crest at what the media is calling a house party.
Officers responded to the 2200 block of San Ysidro Drive about 2:30 a.m. and located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A man in his 40s died at the scene, the LAPD reported. Information was not immediately available on his identity. A man in his 30s was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, police said.
Multiple media reports indicated the shooting occurred at a house party, but police could not immediately confirm those reports.
No description was available of the suspect. A motive for the crime was not known. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call 877-LAPD-247.
Last week, Mayor Eric Garcetti authorized the city to shut off utilities to a Hollywood Hills home where several large parties were hosted despite the COVID-19 pandemic and Safer at Home orders, as well as multiple warnings from law enforcement.
The address of that house was not released, but Garcetti said the residence had been turned into a “nightclub in the hills.”
Garcetti announced on Aug. 5 that he would authorize the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power to shut off utilities to homes and businesses that host “egregious” gatherings amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The mayor said the house parties usually take place at short-term rental homes, but the city’s house party ordinance prohibits gatherings that could cause risks to people’s health and safety.
