Two Metro Expo Line stations reopen after months of construction; Blue Line work continues

LOS ANGELES — Two Expo Line stations in downtown Los Angeles that had been closed for two months due to construction work reopened to the public Saturday.
The Pico and Seventh Street/Metro Center stations had been closed since June 22 as part of an ongoing improvement project on the northern portion of the Metro Blue Line, which shares track with the Expo Line at the two affected stations.
“The reopening of the two Expo Line stations in downtown Los Angeles is a step forward as we strive to complete the New Blue Improvements Project,” Metro Board Chair and Inglewood Mayor James Butts said. “I want to thank the Expo Line riders for their patience during this construction process.”
Metro had been providing shuttle buses to take passengers between the Seventh/Metro and LATTC/Ortho Institute stations.
The Blue Line is undergoing a $350 million modernization project that began in January to improve reliability, enhance safety and improve the customer experience, according to Metro officials.
The Blue Line’s northern segment continues to be out of service, with Metro expecting work to be completed this fall. The southern section of the New Blue Improvements Project was completed June 1 and marked the halfway point of the project.
