About 100 chickens died in a coop fire in Pacoima early Sunday, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.
The large chicken coop was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived in the backyard of a home in the 12800 block of W. Filmore Street, said Margaret Stewart, an LAFD spokeswoman.
They put out the fire by just before 9 a.m.
“The crews quickly extinguished the fire, however, approximately 100 chickens had already perished,” Stewart said in a statement.
City animal services workers were brought to the scene to help dispose of the chickens.
It was not immediately known how the fire started.
No one else was hurt in the fire. And no other structures were damaged.
