Reward Offered in Hit-And-Run Death of Woman

Authorities Friday were hoping a $50,000 reward will generate tips that help them solve the hit-and-run death of woman in the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles.

Veronica Hernandez, 45, was injured on Aug. 4 as she was collecting recyclables from a recycling container on Alondra Boulevard west of Orchard Avenue, and she died at a hospital.

Detectives planned to conduct a news conference Friday morning at the site of the woman’s fatal injury.

Hernandez, a mother of five, “was temporarily homeless” when she was fatally injured, a Los Angeles Police Department statement said.

The reward was offered by the city for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the motorist. No description was released of the vehicle.

“After the collision, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene without providing aid or identifying him/herself, as required by law,” the statement said.

“The reward may convince a reluctant family member or person close to him or her to come forward and provide information that will result in the (suspect’s) location and arrest,” the statement said.
