A woman who was fatally struck by a vehicle on a Long Beach sidewalk was a transient, authorities said Saturday.

Stephanie Jackson was 54 years old, according to the coroner’s office.

Officers were called about 5:35 a.m. Friday to the area of Del Amo Boulevard and Cherry Avenue, near San Antonio Drive, where a vehicle had crashed into a fence near a sidewalk on Cherry, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement.

“While assessing the scene, officers discovered an unresponsive female adult amid the debris,” the department said.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the woman “was possibly asleep on the sidewalk at the time of the collision.”

The driver of the vehicle and a passenger fled the scene on foot, police said, urging anyone with information to contact them at 562-570-7132.
