Felony charges are expected to be filed Tuesday against two reputed gang members accused in a Thermal carjacking.
David Luis Baker, 43, and Jose Luis Martinez, 26, were taken into custody Friday afternoon during the execution of a search warrant in the 46000 block of Dune Palms Road in La Quinta, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Mariano Matos III said the La Quinta residents were both booked on suspicion of carjacking and conspiracy in connection with the Dec. 9 crime that occurred at 66250 Martinez Road in the unincorporated community of Thermal.
Baker was additionally arrested on suspicion of committing a felony while out on bail, the sergeant said.
Both men remain in custody in lieu of $250,000 bail, Baker at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta, and Martinez at the Blythe jail.
Matos said the two are documented street gang members.
Baker has documented felony convictions, including assault with a gun and wilful child cruelty. Martinez’s criminal history, if any, was not immediately clear.
