A Long Beach man suspected of assaulting two contract workers at an apartment complex Tuesday escaped authorities after being believed to be holed-up inside the building.
Officers were dispatched about 10:30 a.m. to the 1200 block of East San Antonio Drive, near Orange Avenue, according to Public Information Officer Allison Gallagher of the Long Beach Police Department.
The victims were doing contract work at the complex for the suspect, when an argument ensued and escalated into a physical assault, Gallagher said.
One contract worker was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the second was not injured, according to Gallagher.
The suspect was believed to have gone inside one of the apartment building’s units and officers attempted to make contact with him, but were unsuccessful and a SWAT team was called to the scene, Gallagher said.
The SWAT team entered the apartment but did not find the suspect, prompting nearby residents to be evacuated “out of caution,” according to Gallagher. Vehicle traffic in the area was also closed for a few hours.
Officers remained at the scene investigating at 5:50 p.m., but further information was not available.
