Man Pleads Not Guilty in Deadly Hit-And-Run Crash in Pasadena

by Contributing Editor

A San Bernardino County man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges stemming from a hit-and-run DUI crash that killed a 64-year-old man in Pasadena.

Alberto Fernandez, 20, of Victorville, is facing one felony count each of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated without gross negligence and hit-and-run resulting in death or serious injury to another person in connection with the Nov. 13 death of Bobby Taylor.

Fernandez, who is being held in lieu of $105,000 bail, was ordered to return to court Jan. 11, when a date is expected to be set for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Orange Grove Boulevard and Marengo Avenue about 9 p.m. Paramedics pronounced Taylor dead at the scene, according to Pasadena police Lt. Marcia Taglioretti.

Fernandez was detained several hours after the crash in Monrovia by the California Highway Patrol, according to Taglioretti. He was taken into custody early the next morning by Pasadena police and has remained jailed since then.
