Chase Suspect Eludes Police in Downtown Los Angeles

A suspect police said threw a gun during a high-speed chase eluded officers in downtown Los Angeles Monday.
The Los Angeles Police Department last saw the suspect shortly before 6 p.m. in the area of Pershing Square, Officer Melissa Podany said. CBS2 reported he may have disappeared inside an underground parking structure.
The chase started about 5:15 p.m. near East Third Street and Gertrude Street in Boyle Heights, according to Podany, who said the initial want was for a man with a gun.
The suspect at times weaved through vehicles and drove on the wrong side of the road at 60 mph.
The suspect got out of the vehicle about 5:30 p.m. near South Atlantic Boulevard and Portal Place and ran around a parking structure before ground units arrived. He then ran back to his vehicle, and LAPD units nearly blocked him in before he drove off again.
He briefly drove on the San Bernardino (10) and Santa Ana (101) freeways before making his way to downtown Los Angeles about 5:45 p.m.
Officers recovered a firearm the suspect threw, Podany said.
