Man Charged with Killing His Brother in Anaheim

A 36-year-old Anaheim man was charged Friday with fatally shooting his brother.

Sergio Marcelino Hurtado is facing a murder charge, with a sentencing enhancement allegation for the discharge of a gun causing death. He is being held on $1 million bail pending his arraignment, which was rescheduled for Oct. 23 in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana.

Hurtado is accused of gunning down 45-year-old Jose Leroy Hurtado of Anaheim about 4 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 600 block of North Zeyn Street, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.

The victim sustained at least one gunshot wound and died at an area hospital, the sergeant said.

Investigators did not offer a motive.
