LAPD in Standoff with Armed Man in South L.A.

Police were in a standoff Wednesday with an armed man who was in a residence in the south Los Angeles area.

Officers went to the 700 block of W. 56th Street at about 7:20 a.m. on a report of a disturbance involving the man and a woman thought to be his girlfriend, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

The woman was believed to be inside the residence with the man, police said. The standoff was continuing about two hours afterward.
