Children Struck by Vehicles in Westlake Village, One Killed, One Hospitalized

A child was killed and another hospitalized Tuesday evening with injuries sustained when they were struck by vehicles on a street in Westlake Village and a person of interest was detained by authorities.
Deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station responded to a crash in the area of Triunfo Canyon Road and Saddle Mountain Drive about 7:10 p.m. and located two injured children, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
One child was pronounced dead at the scene and a child was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, the department said.
The investigation into the crash prompted the closure of Triunfo Canyon Road between Lindero Canyon Road and Twin Lakes Ridge until further notice, according to the department.
Video from the scene showed a scooter in the street and a helmet and roller blades on a sidewalk near the crash location.
The ages, genders and names of the victims were not disclosed.
A person of interest was detained, the sheriff’s department said.
It was unclear if the crash was the result of a street race.
