Biker Suffers Major Injuries in CHP Pursuit in Industry

by Contributing Editor

Authorities say a 44-year-old parolee trying to elude authorities on his motorcycle suffered major injuries Saturday when he crashed his bike on a freeway transition road in Industry.

Steven A. Hodel of Lake Isabella was arrested on suspicion of felony evading and possession of methamphetamine with intent to sale and released for treatment to Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Hodel was being held on a no-bail warrant.

Officers tried to stop Hodel as he was speeding on a Yamaha R6 on Grand Avenue, north of the Pomona (60) Freeway, at 1:53 a.m., the CHP said. The biker then allegedly raced away reaching speeds in excess of 120 mph on the westbound 60 Freeway.

Hodel struck a metal guardrail as he transitioned from the westbound 60 Freeway to the northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway. The impact caused him to be ejected from the vehicle landing on the roadway of the northbound 605 Freeway. The motorcycle slid across all lanes of traffic and struck a concrete barrier.

Paramedics rushed Hodel to the hospital.

The CHP’s Baldwin Park office asked anyone with information regarding the incident to call them at 626-338-1164.
