Police Search for Attempted Murder-Carjack Suspect After High-Speed Pursuit

by Contributing Editor

Officers were conducting a perimeter search in the Hyde Park area Saturday for the driver of a car wanted in connection with attempted murder and carjacking.

A high-speed pursuit began at 1:57 p.m. but was quickly downgraded “to tracking when it became too dangerous” at about 2 p.m. at eastbound Slauson and Normandie avenues, according to Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

The blue Hyundai Sonata was driven at high speeds and was possibly involved “in a couple of traffic collisions,” Madison said.

The battered vehicle was abandoned near 59th Place and Crenshaw Boulevard, where three suspects fled from the vehicle.

Streets were closed between 59th Place and 60th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard and Brynhurst Avenue, Madison said.

It was not clear whether the Hyundai was carjacked before the pursuit or wanted in connection with an attempted murder and carjacking. “I don’t know if they carjacked to get it or if the warrant was on the license plate,” Madison said.

There were two males and a female in the Sonata. The female and a male were in custody after a family was evacuated from a house in the area where the suspects may have been trying to hide, NBC4 reported.
