State Cutbacks Force Reduced Friday Hours at Courthouses

by Contributing Editor

Clerk’s offices in most Orange County courthouses will only be open until noon on Fridays due to COVID-19-related state budget cutbacks, officials said Friday.

The noon Friday closure will not apply to the clerk’s offices at the Central and Lamoureaux Justice Centers which will remain open for temporary restraining orders for domestic violence, elder abuse or civil harassment.

The early closure will also not apply to the clerk’s office in juvenile court so attorneys can make legal deadlines.

The courthouses have had their state funding reduced by $176.9 million for the 2020-21 fiscal year.
