A 72-year-old Los Angeles man is behind bars Friday for allegedly killing a woman in a hit-and-run in the Westlake area.

Ramiro Vincente Torres was arrested about 9 p.m. Thursday in the 2000 block of 39th Street, near Arlington Avenue, in the Exposition Park area, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center, with bail set at $50,000.

The victim, who was about 35 to 40 years old, was struck about 4:30 a.m. Thursday at Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street and died at a hospital. Her name has not been released.

The victim “was crossing Wilshire Boulevard outside of a marked crosswalk west of Alvarado Street” when she was struck by a white 2000 to 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck traveling eastbound on Wilshire Boulevard, according to an LAPD statement.

Authorities had released security images and footage in seeking public tips that would lead to the suspect. A standing City Council-authorized reward of up to $50,000 is offered in fatal hit-and-run cases.
