Multiple Homes in Riverside Burned by Fire

by Contributing Editor

A fire that spread to several homes in Riverside before it was extinguished caused about $400,000 in damages, fire officials said Sunday.

The fire was reported just before 6 p.m. Saturday and first ignited in the backyard of a property at 1765 Fairmount Blvd., according to the City of Riverside Fire Department.

Winds drove the fire to spread to two residential structures at 1755 Fairmount Blvd., one detached garage structure at 1765 Fairmount Blvd. and the one residential structure at 1755 Fairmount Blvd., Battalion Chief Bruce Vanderhorst said.

The fire prompted a third-alarm response.

A firefighter was injured by a fallen tree branch while working the fire and was treated at a hospital before being released back to full duty, according to Vanderhorst.

Another person was also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Arson investigators were investigating the fire but were unable to determine the cause as of Sunday, Vanderhorst said.
