Laguna Beach Identify Homicide Victim as LA Attorney

by Contributing Editor

A 46-year-old man shot to death in Laguna Beach was an attorney from Sherman Oaks, whose license was suspended in February.

Barret Adin Slome lived in Los Angeles and also at his father’s condominium in Laguna Beach, where he was gunned down by an intruder just before 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to Laguna Beach police Sgt. Jim Cota.

Investigators suspect Slome was targeted because it is difficult to get access into the Laguna Lido condominiums at 31755 Coast Highway and the victim was killed in a second-floor unit, Cota said.

Slome had been attacked before, according to a report from the State Bar on the suspension of his law license.

On April 28, 2017, Los Angeles police responded to a home invasion robbery and shooting at Slome’s residence, according to the State Bar. Slome was shot six times and was hospitalized for about two months, according to the State Bar.

Police found about 350 pounds of marijuana and $19,429 in cash in Slome’s home, which resulted in him being charged by the city attorney’s office with possession of cannabis for sale, as well as a zoning permit violation, according to the State Bar.

Slome pleaded no contest to the zoning permit violation on May 18, 2018, and was ordered to pay $4,349 in fines, according to the bar. His license was suspended for a month and he was placed on probation for a year.

Anyone with information that would help detectives investigating Slome’s killing was asked to call police at 949-497-0767 or 949-497-0373.
