by Contributing Editor

Police Sunday are searching for the driver who hit a Fourth of July celebrant in the unincorporated Lennox neighborhood.

Victor Torres Carrillo, 26, of Inglewood, had just been setting off a firework in the middle of 105th Street, east of Hawthorne Boulevard when he was struck Saturday, witnesses told the California Highway Patrol.

He tripped while trying to walk toward the shoulder of the road and was hit by a fast-moving vehicle, according to Karina Malkandueva of the California Highway Patrol.

The driver sped off westbound on 105th Street in a car described as either a Ford Mustang or a Chevrolet Camaro.

Meanwhile, Carrillo succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Investigators closed 105th Street, east of Hawthorne Boulevard, for about three hours during the investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call officer Vance Perreria or officer Karina Malkandueva at the CHP West Los Angeles Area office at 310-642-3939.
