Officers arrested a hit-and-run motorist who allegedly struck and killed a man in Santa Ana Saturday, then parked the vehicle a short distance from the crash scene.

Police received several calls about 1:20 a.m. of a man down in the roadway in the 2400 block of South Fairview Street, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.

The victim was struck by a vehicle driving south on Fairview Street which drove away prior to the arrival of police.

“Investigators located the involved vehicle, which was parked a short distance from the collision scene,” police said in a statement.

The vehicle led them to a home, where they arrested the alleged driver, Jonathan Padilla of Santa Ana, on suspicion of felony hit and run. He was booked at the Santa Ana Jail.

The Santa Ana Police Department urged anyone who saw the crash to call them at 714-245-8284.
