Man Charged With Looting at Pharmacy During Protest in Santa Monica

Criminal charges were filed Tuesday against a man arrested on suspicion of looting a Santa Monica pharmacy following a peaceful march by demonstrators over the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Leonidas Carlier, 28, is charged with one felony count each of looting during an emergency or evacuation, second-degree burglary and second-degree commercial burglary, along with one misdemeanor count of vandalism under $400, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The criminal complaint alleges that the crimes occurred May 31.

Carlier was arrested Friday in connection with the earlier looting at the Kaiser Permanente pharmacy at 1450 10th Street, according to a statement released by Santa Monica police.

A criminal investigation had been launched based on information from eyewitnesses and the business operators, police said.

A search warrant was served Friday at 20216 Roscoe Blvd. in Winnetka, according to police, who could not be reached for immediate comment on how Carlier was allegedly linked to the crime.

Carlier has remained jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail since his arrest, jail records show.
