A woman was in custody Tuesday after allegedly confessing to murdering a man whose body was found in a Pacoima home when firefighters put out a blaze for which she also claimed responsibility, police said.
The fire was reported just before 2:30 p.m. Monday in a one-story, single-family home in the 23200 block of West Victory Boulevard.
After extinguishing the flames, firefighters found “the remains of a male decedent with a severe injury to his throat” and notified police, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
“Upon their arrival, LAPD officers determined a crime had occurred and secured the crime scene,” according to a police statement. “As the officers investigated the scene, a woman — later identified as the suspect — approached them and stated that she had set the residence ablaze and had also murdered the victim found inside of the residence.”
The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was taken into custody and a knife was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence, police said.
Authorities withheld the name of the fatally injured man, pending notification of his next of kin.
