Santa Ana police Monday were investigating a fatal stabbing.
The victim, whose age and name were not immediately released, was attacked just after 5 p.m. Sunday in the 4100 block of West Fifth Street, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
First responders were called to the courtyard of an apartment complex on that block, where they found the man suffering from stab wounds, Bertagna said. The victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:40 p.m.
Witnesses told investigators there was a “violent encounter” between the victim and two suspects, but a motive has not been established, Bertagna said.
Investigators said the victim did not appear to have any gang ties, he said.
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is asked to call police at 714-245-8390. Orange County Crime Stoppers will accept anonymous tips at 855-TIP-0CCS.
