by Contributing Editor

A man in Hemet was arrested Sunday in the shooting death of a 29-year-old man in Pomona, police said.

Officers responded a little before 5:15 p.m. Saturday to the 2000 block of Las Vegas Avenue, in response to a reported victim of a shooting, the Pomona Police Department reported.

A family member took the 29-year-old man to Pomona Valley Medical Center, where he died from his wounds.

Police said an investigation identified Hemet resident Raymond Leonard Rice, 31, as the suspect in the shooting death.

“Detectives learned that Rice was at a residence in Hemet and completed a search warrant for the location,” according to a police statement.

Members of the Pomona Police Department’s SWAT team served the warrant Sunday morning and took Rice into custody. He was booked at the Pomona City Jail on suspicion of murder.

Pomona police asked anyone with information regarding the homicide to call them at 909-620-2085.
