Los Angeles Controller Expands Food Pantry Map to Include County Locations

by Contributing Editor

Los Angeles City Controller Ron Galperin announced Wednesday that a “food map” created by his office has been expanded to include the locations of more than 140 food pantries throughout the county.

The map is titled “Food Pantries Across L.A. County” and can be accessed at lacontroller.org/LACountyFood.

“The new normal of staying home is necessary to slow the spread of the coronavirus right now but poses real challenges for families across the Southland,” Galperin said. “Kids can’t go to school, parents have either lost their job or are forced to work from home, and meeting basic needs like getting food is tougher than it was before.”

Galperin released the map last Wednesday, initially showing food pantries only within the city limits as well as locations of Los Angeles Unified School District’s Grab and Go food pickup centers.

“My goal is to help people, especially working and low-income families, access fresh and nutritious food so that they can keep themselves healthy,” Galperin said.

Other maps on the controller’s website include resources for emergency preparedness, LGBTQ homeless youth centers, tax preparation locations, homeless housing availability, domestic violence services and youth programs.

The maps can be found at lacontroller.org/resourcemaps.
