Two Teens Arrested On Suspicion Of Firing Gun

by Contributing Editor

Two 18-year-old men in Pomona were arrested for allegedly firing shots Sunday morning from a handgun that had its serial number filed off.

Officers first heard shots a little before 12:40 a.m. while they were in the area of Hamilton Boulevard and Monterey Avenue, the Pomona Police Department reported.

Officers “saturated” the area, and the police department began receiving 911 calls from several residents in the area of the 1200 block of West First Street reporting that they heard sounds of gunfire.

“A black small vehicle was seen fleeing westbound on First Street by one of the 911 callers,” police said.

Officers then located a small black vehicle parked in front of what they said was a known gang member’s house in the 1200 block of West Second Street.

As officers approached the vehicle — with two occupants inside — they noticed a single shell casing on the ground just outside the passenger front door.

“During the course of the investigation officers located additional shell casings within the vehicle,” according to the statement. “They also located a firearm with the serial number filed off.”

Pomona residents Christian Alderete and Alderete Bocanegra admitted to firing the weapon and were arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle and removal of a firearm serial number.

Alderete and Bocanegra were booked at the Pomona City Jail.
