Man Who Shot at Cars, Burglarized Properties in Eastvale Pleads Guilty

by Contributing Editor

An 18-year-old Corona man who shot at parked cars and committed break-ins on an Eastvale street last summer pleaded guilty Thursday to a felony burglary charge.

In exchange for Bryce McDonald’s admission, prosecutors dropped five related charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge David Gunn scheduled a sentencing hearing for Feb. 19 at the Riverside Hall of Justice. Meanwhile, McDonald is free on bond.

His 15-year-old accomplice was charged in Riverside Juvenile Dependency Court, but the status of that case was unclear.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Heard, deputies were sent to the 6500 block of Gandiola Street, near Cattlemen Drive, about 11:25 a.m. Aug. 27 to investigate reports of shots fired.

Heard said witnesses directed patrolmen to two individuals trying to conceal themselves behind shrubbery in a front yard. Deputies deployed a K9 unit to confront the pair, which resulted in a 90-minute precautionary lockdown at nearby Harada Elementary School.

Heard said the sheriff’s service dog flushed the two out of their hiding place in less than an hour.

“Numerous items of stolen property were recovered (next to) the suspects, to include a handgun,” the sergeant said then. “Deputies investigating the scene located several vehicles that were struck by gunfire, and numerous spent shell casings were recovered in the street, sidewalks and yards.”

It was unclear why McDonald was shooting at vehicles. He has no documented prior felony convictions.
