5-year-old shot in South LA home is rushed to hospital with ‘scoop and run’

LOS ANGELES — A 5-year-old girl was hospitalized in very serious condition Thursday morning with a gunshot wound she suffered inside a South Los Angeles home.

Police responded to a residence near the intersection of 41st Place and Woodlawn Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and found the child suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Paramedics performed a “scoop and run” and rushed the girl to a hospital with an escort from the LAPD.

“My understanding is that she’s in very serious condition,” LAPD Lt. Raul Jovel told KCAL9 Thursday night. “I don’t know if she’s been downgraded, if she’s still critical or not critical. I know she’s still being treated in the emergency room.”

Authorities told KCAL9 several family members were home at the time of the shooting but said it was unclear if the shooting was self-inflicted or someone shot the girl, either accidentally or intentionally.
