Suspect Dies in Officer-Involved Shooting in Anaheim

by Contributing Editor

An investigation was underway Friday into an officer-involved shooting in Anaheim that left a suspect dead.

The shooting occurred in the underground garage of an apartment complex near East Street and Lincoln Avenue on Thursday night, according to Sgt. Shane Carringer of the Anaheim Police Department.

Police responded to a disturbance call about 10:10 p.m. and, for reasons still under investigation, an officer-involved shooting occurred, he said.

Three officers were on scene with body-worn cameras, but it was unclear how many of them fired on the suspect, described only as an adult male, the sergeant said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he died, Carringer said. No officers were injured.

A report of a knife found at the scene was erroneous, according to Kimberly Edds, a spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

An investigation into the shooting was being conducted by Anaheim police homicide detectives and the D.A.’s office.

East Street near Lincoln Avenue, which was closed for more than six hours for the investigation, reopened about 5:30 Friday morning.
