A Pasadena man was injured Tuesday when robbers beat him and took his cell phone.

Police later arrested three suspects including a 17-year-old boy. The robbery happened on Painter Street and Summit Avenue at 2:49 p.m.

A 22-year-old Pasadena man was walking near an apartment complex when he saw a white Toyota Camry leave the complex and stop, Pasadena Police Lt. Pete Hettema said.

He said two people got out of the car and made a reference to the man being in the wrong neighborhood.

When the victim walked past the suspects, he was struck on the right side of the face and knocked down, Hettema said. The assailants then kicked the man several times. One of suspects took a cell phone from the man’s pocket.

Both robbers left in the car. Officers later found the Camry and detained three people.

Hettema said the victim suffered a black eye, swelling to the face and contusion on the right side of his head. He was taken to a hospital.

Officers arrested Damon Gipson, 22, of Los Angeles, Kendall Thompson, 28, El Monte, and a 17-year-old from Los Angeles on suspicion of robbery. Gipson and Thompson are being held at Pasadena jail. Police said the teen was taken to a juvenile hall.
