A traffic dispute Tuesday in Pasadena ended with one man arrested on suspicion of shooting at a vehicle and another man accused of driving while drunk.
The victim wasn’t injured, Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema said. He added that the gun turned out to be a BB gun loaded with metal pellets.
A 55-year-old man driving a Range Rover was heading north on Arroyo Parkway and approaching Del Mar Boulevard when a sedan attempted to pass him on the right, Hettema said.
The man thought the sedan scraped his car. He followed the sedan to Del Mar Boulevard, pulled up alongside the vehicle and said something to the driver and passenger, according to Hettema.
The two men stepped out and confronted the victim who remained inside his vehicle. Hettema said the victim looked back and saw the sedan’s passenger open the trunk and pull out a gun.
He heard something hit the side of the Range Rover and believed the suspect shot at his vehicle, Hettema said.
Police received a call at 10:17 a.m. from the victim who also followed the suspects.
Officers stopped the sedan at Catalina Avenue, south of California Boulevard. Because the incident involved a gun, Hettema said police closed the street and told a nearby school to be on lockdown.
They removed the two suspects from the car. Hettema said officers found an Airsoft pistol loaded with metal pellets in the car.
Michael Heiges, 47, of Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was cited and released Tuesday.
Christopher Mathis, 34, of Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles in lieu of $30,000 bail. Mathis is scheduled for a Thursday arraignment at Pasadena Superior Court.
