The building at 7101 N. Sepulveda Blvd. was boarded up on all sides, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. He said firefighters were operating in a defensive manner using multiple heavy streams in attacking the fire from the building’s exterior only.
No other buildings were threatened, Humphrey said, but firefighters requested police assistance in moving a large contingent of homeless people from tents in an adjacent parking lot to prevent them from being injured by falling debris.
The fire led to the full closure of Sepulveda Boulevard between Vose Street and Sherman Way. Authorities advised the public to avoid the area.
