Several people were reported to be sick aboard a Norwegian Cruise Lines ship that was docked at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro Sunday morning, officials said.
Los Angeles Fire Department officials responded to a call to examine “several persons” who were said to be ill aboard the cruise ship at around 9:20 a.m., LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said. The ship was still disembarking passengers at around 11 a.m. Sunday, and the exact number of those who wanted a medical assessment or transportation to a local hospital wasn’t immediately known.
None of the patients were displaying life-threatening symptoms, Humphrey said.
The ship was identified as “Norwegian Joy” docked at Berth 91, he said.
Built in 2017, the ship can hold up to about 3,800 guests with about 1,800 crew members, according to Norwegian Cruise Line’s website.
It wasn’t immediately known which route “Norwegian Joy” was taking when the incident occurred and whether it had planned to stop in San Pedro prior to the passengers falling ill.
Check back for any new developments.
