A 20-year-old man was shot to death outside his home in an apartment complex in Santa Ana early Friday in an attack that also wounded his family’s dog.
Police responded to the Waterstone Park Apartments at 2833 N. Bristol St. about 2:30 a.m., according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
When officers arrived they found Adrian Real had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in a carport area of the complex, Bertagna said. Officers attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, he added.
Witnesses told police they heard a commotion before the shots rang out, he said.
The victim’s car was missing, so police believe suspects may have carjacked the victim’s four-door silver 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer, license number 8BRF172, Bertagna said.
Real lived at the apartment complex with his mother, father and brother, he said.
Several rounds pierced a gate and their residence, injuring the family pet, who is a type of Husky dog, he said.
Police rushed the dog to a veterinarian in Tustin, but the canine has “extensive injuries” and the family cannot afford surgery, so the veterinarians are “doing their best to make him comfortable,” Bertagna said.
Anyone with information was urged to call 714-245-8731.
