Felon to Stand Trial for Allegedly Robbing Woman Outside Norco Strip Mall

A convicted felon accused of robbing a woman in the parking lot of a Norco strip mall must stand trial for robbery and other offenses, a judge ruled Tuesday.
Rene Simon Breceda, 42, of Eastvale was arrested in January following a months-long Riverside County sheriff’s investigation into the holdup.
At the end of a preliminary hearing at the Riverside Hall of Justice, Riverside County Superior Court Judge Larrie Brainard found there was sufficient evidence to warrant a trial on the robbery count, as well as sentence-enhancing allegations of committing a serious crime within five years of parole from state prison.
The judge scheduled a post-preliminary hearing arraignment for Dec. 5 at the Riverside courthouse. Breceda is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
According to sheriff’s investigators, on the morning of May 9, 2018, the defendant allegedly confronted the victim, identified in court documents only as Jane Doe, in the 2300 block of Hamner Avenue, just west of Interstate 15.
Breceda pulled a handgun and forced the woman to relinquish her money and other belongings, investigators alleged.
The ex-convict then allegedly fled in a car, and the woman, who was not injured, called 911, according to the sheriff’s department.
Detectives developed leads in the ensuing months, and by the first week of January, Breceda was identified as the alleged bandit.
Search warrants were served at locations in Eastvale and Norco, culminating in the seizure of evidence connected to the robbery and Breceda’s arrest, according to sheriff’s officials.
Court records did not specify the nature of his prior convictions.
