A dump truck involved in a crash with another vehicle on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway Wednesday morning caught fire and accidentally dumped its load of rocks, prompting a SigAlert for three lanes of the freeway until at least 5 a.m.

The accident was first reported about 2:10 a.m. near the Palo Verde Avenue exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck hit a wall on the right side of a freeway on-ramp and caught fire, the CHP said.

Rocks were dumped across the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 lanes of the freeway and a SigAlert was issued until 5 a.m. while Caltrans crews cleaned up the debris, the CHP said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
