Easy fire in Simi Valley up to more than 1,700 acres on second day, 10% containment

Aided by some of the most powerful wind gusts of the season, a brush fire that broke out Wednesday in Simi Valley near the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library grew by Thursday to 1,723 charred acres on its second day.
So far, firefighters have been able to get it 10% contained.
The Ventura County Easy fire threatened thousands of homes, forcing evacuations, and crept toward the Reagan structures and at one point threatened it.
More than 700 firefighters continued to battle the blaze, the Ventura County Fire Department said Thursday morning.
“Control lines were wind-tested last night and held,” the department said in an update.
Hours after the Easy fire was ignited, shortly after 6 a.m., the incessant wind pushed it west and eventually the blaze jumped the 23 Freeway, bringing to fruition a fear that fire officials had earlier in the day.
But firefighters were able to quickly quell the flames and stopped their westward movements, officials said.
Portions of the 23 Freeway continued to be closed on Thursday while crews continued clean up.
