How are fires and winds affecting San Fernando Valley, LA and Simi Valley traffic?

by Steven Rosenberg

calabaorthBetween the Getty fire in Brentwood, the Easy fire in Simi Valley and the new Mureau fire in Calabasas, things aren’t looking too good late Wednesday morning on local freeways and roads.

The CHP closed the northbound 101 at Mureau Road in Calabasas due to the Mureau fire, and the agency was encouraging motorists to avoid the area due to the second-alarm brush fire that is threatening homes. However, the closed lanes were soon reopened as firefighters began to get a handle on that blaze.

But the CHP did say the freeway could close again if conditions warrant it.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, traffic is extremely slow in both directions on the 101 in Calabasas.

Due to the temporary 101 closure in Calabasas, the northbound 101 is backing up to Topanga Canyon Boulevard.

As for the rest of the 101 Freeway, there is the usual southbound slowing between Reseda Boulevard and the 405 and then from Woodman into the Universal City area.

In the Getty fire area near the Sepulveda Pass, traffic on the southbound 405 freeway is very slow between Sherman Way and the 101 interchange. Southbound traffic is slow but a little better from the 101 interchange through Sunset Boulevard.

Things look better on the northbound 405, with some slowing between Mulholland Drive and Ventura Boulevard.

Sepulveda Boulevard in the Sepulveda Pass is closed Wednesday morning.

Traffic on the southbound 170 Freeway is heavy in the North Hollywood area. Northbound lanes are clear.

In Simi Valley, the 118 Freeway is open and clear in both directions near the Easy fire area, but the 23 Freeway remains closed. There is slowing on the westbound 118 between Tierra Rejada Road and Grimes Canyon Road.
