The fire had first been reported as a one-acre fire near Soledad Canyon Road and the 14 Freeway at about 3:40 p.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Department representative Franklin Lopez.
Though the fire grew to 30 acres, burning on both sides of the freeway, Lopez said fire crews managed to stop its forward progress.
No structures were threatened by the blaze.
The fire prompted a closure for the northbound 14 Freeway on-ramp at Sand Canyon Road, and two right lanes of the north side of the freeway, said the California Highway Patrol.
