Dozens of Warrants Served Countywide to Combat Domestic Violence

by Contributing Editor

A warrant sweep targeting convicted and suspected domestic violence offenders netted 15 arrests in Moreno Valley, Hemet and San Jacinto, authorities said Thursday.

Regional law enforcement agencies, including the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Probation and Hemet Police Department, participated in the 17th annual National Family Violence Apprehension Detail Wednesday.

Deputies, police officers and probation agents were searching for individuals with arrest warrants for domestic abuse-related offenses, those who have violated domestic violence restraining orders and others with active cases pending in Superior Court, authorities said.

Hemet police Sgt. Michael Arellano said that in the Hemet and San Jacinto valleys, nine people were arrested after a total 24 “family violence-related warrants” were served.

Sheriff’s Sgt. William Stens said that in Moreno Valley, six people were taken into custody.

Arellano and Stens noted that the apprehension efforts were in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

According to Arellano, in October 2018, 315 law enforcement agencies throughout the country took part in similar details.

Statistics on domestic violence, its social and economic impacts can be found at ncadv.org/learn/statistics.
