Second Man Arrested in Connection With Shooting in Huntington Beach

by Contributing Editor

A second suspect was arrested Wednesday in connection with the wounding of another man in a shooting in Huntington Beach.

Casey Ngo, 31, of the unincorporated Orange County community Midway City, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, according to Huntington Beach Police Department Officer Angela Bennett.

Dennis Tri Gia Dang, 29, of Westminster was arrested on Monday and charged Tuesday with attempted murder, Bennett said.

The charge against Dang includes sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder, discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury or death and leaving a victim comatose or paralyzed.

Dang pleaded not guilty to the charge and was ordered to return to court Oct. 30 for a pretrial hearing in the West Justice Center in Westminster.

Police were called at 12:17 p.m. Sunday to the shooting at Magnolia Street and Warner Avenue, Bennett said.

The victim, whose name was not released for investigative reasons, suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition, Bennett said.

The victim was in a coma and if he dies, prosecutors intend to upgrade the charges in the case, said Orange County Senior Deputy District Attorney Janine Madera.

Officials declined to say what relationship, if any, Dang and Ngo had with the victim or what prompted the shooting, but according to Bennett, “detectives believe there is no longer a threat to the public and this was an isolated incident.”
