CARSON — A 57-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday during a confrontation with a probation officer in Carson.

The shooting occurred about 12:45 p.m. in the 24000 block of South Wilmington Avenue, near Sepulveda Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“Los Angeles County Probation officers were at the location to execute an arrest warrant,” according to a Sheriff’s Department statement. “When they made contact with the suspect inside the house, he confronted the probation officer with a stabbing instrument and a shooting occurred.”

The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Department did not immediately disclose why the officer was seeking the man’s arrest.
