Information on possible gang motive prompts Pasadena police to reopen investigation into 2013 killing

PASADENA — Police in Pasadena have reopened their investigation into the 2013 shooting death of a 35-year-old Monrovia man after receiving new information that the victim was targeted by members of a local street gang.

Tyrone English was gunned down about 8:40 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2013 in the 600 block of North Mar Vista Avenue, according to Pasadena Police Department Lt. Jesse Carrillo.

Officers responded to a shooting call and found English unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Carrillo said.

Detectives were unable to identify whoever was responsible for the killing.

“Recent information has come to light providing Pasadena detectives an opportunity to further the investigation,” he said Monday. “New information suggests that victim Tyrone English was intentionally targeted by members of the Pasadena Denver Lane Bloods criminal street gang resulting in his murder.”

Investigators are following up on the new information in an effort to identify the person or people responsible for English’s death, Carrillo said.Anyone with information about the case was urged to call Pasadena police at 626-744-4241.
