A suspected wrong way driver who jumped from an overpass as he ran from the scene of a head-on crash on the Pearblossom Highway in Littlerock was hospitalized Saturday morning.
The crash involved a Honda Accord and a truck pulling a trailer near 75th Street East around 10:50 p.m. and required the closure of all westbound lanes of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
“This driver was driving on the wrong side of the road, locked up his wheels, hit the wall, ended up facing backwards and then ran right into me,” Nicholas Scarnechia told a news photographer at the scene.
The suspect ran from the wreckage and jumped down 25 feet from a nearby bridge before he was taken into custody by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies at 11:05 p.m., the CHP said.
He was taken to a hospital with what were described as severe injuries, the CHP said.
No other injuries were reported.
Lanes were reopened at midnight.
