Investigators Seek To ID Hit-And-Run Driver Who Struck LAPD Officer

by Contributing Editor

Police Thursday released images of a minivan whose driver struck an officer in South Los Angeles then fled the scene.

The crash occurred about 10:40 p.m. Monday at the intersection of San Pedro and 61st streets.

The officer said he and his partner had pulled over a suspected stolen vehicle just moments before he was struck.

“While we were dealing with the occupants of that car, a van coming the opposite direction either didn’t see me or didn’t care, he gunned it and gave me a ride on his hood into the intersection, then took off,” LAPD Officer Mike Martinez told ABC7.

Martinez did not go to a hospital.

The minivan was described as a late-1990s to early 2000s Toyota Sienna with two-toned gray paint and a black painted hood.

The driver is described as a 25- to 50-year-old Hispanic man with short black or gray hair.

Rewards of up to $50,000 are available for information leading to the identification, apprehension and conviction in hit-and-run cases in Los Angeles.

Anyone with information about the crash or the suspect was urged to call the LAPD’s Central Traffic Division at 213-486-8344.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS or lacrimestoppers.org.
