1 sent to hospital after vehicle crashes into water equipment in Mission Hills

by Robert Gundran

A vehicle crash in Mission Hills on Thursday afternoon sheared off a hydrant that spewed water high into the air. One person was sent to a local hospital with unspecified injuries, authorities said.

Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said the crash occurred at around 5 p.m. in the 9900 block of Sepulveda Boulevard. The wreck sheared off a hydrant and caused a geyser of water to spray from the ground.

The cause of the accident wasn’t immediately known.

Officials said first responders pulled several people out of the vehicle and that everyone in the area declined to be sent to the hospital. Humphrey noted that some time later, one person was transported to the hospital.

Information on that person’s condition was not immediately available.

Humphrey said the streets around the crash were closed while investigators worked the scene of the crash.
